Step One
Watch carefully in this first episode as the characters do NOT practice empathy. Both the news reporter and Mojo are unkind and not empathetic. Think to yourself how this makes the other characters feel. Try and remember a time in your own life when someone didn't take the time to understand how you were feeling and reflect on how difficult that might have been. |

Step Two
Watch video #2 and think about "the maze". The maze is not a real place but it represents what it feels like when we are overwhelmed with big emotions---it is confusing and difficult to think about others when we are feeling this way. Thank about your own coping strategies and name three things to yourself right now that help you calm down when you are overtaken by big emotion. |

Step Three
Watch video #3 and notice how Mojo was able to calm himself down by using a deep breath. Once he was calm he was able to think about how Katie monster was feeling. Instead of yelling at her for forgetting her lines, instead he imagined how she was feeling. Once he realized she was embarrassed and nervous, he thought about what *he* needs when he feels this way--someone to be encouraging and supportive. Watch to see how Mojo practicing empathy saves the show! Can you think of a time when you practiced empathy? |
